Sunburn can cause pain, redness, and long-term skin damage. Acting quickly can help minimize its effects and promote healing.
Start by getting out of the sun immediately and taking a cool (not cold) shower or bath to soothe the skin. Avoid harsh soaps, and gently pat the skin dry.
Apply aloe vera gel or a fragrance-free moisturizer to reduce inflammation. Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated, as sunburns can lead to dehydration.
Avoid tight clothing and further sun exposure until your skin has healed. If blistering occurs, do not pop the blisters as this can lead to infection.
If the burn is severe, accompanied by fever or dizziness, consult a dermatologist immediately.
